In 1951 came the discovery of these prehistoric cave paintings in rock shelters around the gully of the Cova Foradada (municipality of Alcoy), near the hamlet of La Sarga (Jijona). In La Sarga are represented three of the prehistoric horizons of the eastern facade of the Iberian Peninsula, clearly differentiated by color, type of execution and theme. The three land use reddish hues, different for each of them, convective powder and mixed with some organic product unknown to fix the walls without prior preparation, using brushes made from bird feathers, hairs, fibers machacadaso even with fingers.
• Enrolled in 1997 in the catalog of Cultural Interest in 1998 the paintings of La Sarga were declared "World Heritage" by UNESCO.
